Don’t get caught out with wooden packaging for your EU exports.
We are still being contacted by many occasional or irregular exporters who are uncertain over wooden packaging such as crates, cases & pallets for goods being shipped to Europe.
Since Brexit all solid timber packaging for EU exports must now comply with the International Plant Protection Convention IPPC rules and be treated to kill pests & diseases that might be present in the wood.
The treated wood is then stamped ISPM 15 which simply means: International Standard for Phytosanitary Measure 15.
Pallets & export crates & cases can be heat treated or chemically treated with Methyl Bromide.
Here at Defenda we only produce heat treated export timber products and thankfully chemical treatment is decreasing around the world & banned in many countries.
If you are not a regular exporter please be careful when buying wooden protective packaging such as wooden pallets that are advertised as kiln dried. Kiln dried pallets are not the same as heat treated pallets and not necessarily suitable for your exports. To avoid any costly customs clearance issues ensure your wooden packaging is ISPM15 compliant.
Feel free to give us a call if you need help or would like us to build you some bespoke wooden crates or pallets. We make all of our wooden packaging in Coventry but supply to any area of the UK with very short lead times.
